Mason Massey Chasing the Checkered at Five Flags Speedway Tonight

Pensacola, Fl.- Mason Massey is competing in the Sunoco Southern Super Series race at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida tonight.

But there's only one flag out of those "five" that matters to Mason.

"The checkered flag is definitely our goal," the talented driver said. "After our strong run last time I feel like we will have another one this weekend. I really want to get a win for our team."

Following the Thursday practice, Mason was optimistic that he and his team would be in the hunt tonight. "We made progress all through the practice and the guys had it going good at the end so I'm excited to go racing on Friday and see what we can do!"

Tonight's event is part of the track's "Blizzard Series", one of three local and regional points series that comprise the overall Sunoco Southern Super Series. Mason says there is no stronger field of cars in all of short-track stock car racing.

"These races are really tough," the 16-year-old explained. "You've got drivers like Daniel Hemric, Bubba Pollard, John-Hunter Nemechek, Augie Grill and so many others. It's like an all-star race every time out. I'm proud to race in this series and I'm looking forward to getting a win for our team, hopefully here this weekend at Five Flags!"

Mason Massey Strong Fifth at Alabama 200

Montgomery, Al. - August 26, 2013 - Mason Massey had a huge weekend at Montgomery Motor Speedway this past weekend in the 49th Annual Alabama 200. Not only did he finish fifth (his first Super Late Model top five) but he ran top three much of the day until a flat tire forced him to race back through the star-studded field.

Mason was right in the hunt with eventual winner Chase Elliott as well as other veterans such as Bubba Pollard and Augie Grill.

For Mason, the 2012 champion of this huge and prestigious event, the weekend was a big success despite not defending his title.

"This was just the fifth race together for Josh (Hamner, Mason's crew chief) and I. I'm really proud of him and our whole team because we were good from the time we unloaded on Friday right through the race's end on Saturday. We are still experimenting with some different things to find even more speed and comfort for me. We had a flat tire, which was a problem several racers had as well, so the fact that we still ended up top five was awesome."

Mason talked specifically about the level of competition in the Southern Super Series. "These drivers are some of the best that Super Late Model racing has to offer anywhere," the 16-year-old said. "When you have guys like Bubba (Pollard), Daniel (Hemric) Augie Grill, Chase Elliott and the others it makes it hard just to qualify up front let alone race for wins. It's like an all-star race every week and you have to bring your best effort and be there at the end. We did that today and I'm thankful to God as well as to my team and my sponsors for helping make this all possible."

The next scheduled event for Mason and his team will be September 20th at Five Flags Speedway.

Mason Massey Set to Defend Alabama 200 Title at Montgomery Motor Speedway This Weekend

(Douglasville, Ga.) - Montgomery, Al. - August 20, 2013 - Mason Massey was just 15 years old when he beat a star-studded field of Late Model competitors to take the win in the 48th Annual Alabama 200 at Montgomery Motor Speedway last year.

That made him the youngest driver to win the race in its' present 200-lap format. One year later, the now 16-year-old from Douglasville, Georgia rolls into the track with the rest of the Southern Super Series field bring with him a strong sense of confidence and the memories of last year's triumph.

"That was an amazing weekend," Mason said earlier this week. "We had a good car all day long. We led over 100 laps. When we were able to get the win it was awesome because it was just my second win in a Late Model and it's such a big race!"

Mason has a new team and a new crew chief (Josh Hamner) this season but he says he has no less confidence than he had coming in last year. "Josh takes really good care of me and he works hard to give me competitive cars every time out. We're still learning each other but we're getting better each time out. We finished 13th at the World Crown 300 a couple of weeks ago at Gresham Motorsports Park but a lot of that had to do with us having to finish the race on old tires because the last 128 laps went caution-free so we couldn't pit or we'd have lost laps. I believe we have what it takes to contend for the win at Montgomery and that's the goal. We want to do it as a team."

The weekend gets underway Friday with practice. Race day is Saturday. For more information about the race including start times and ticket prices, visit www.MontgomerySpeedway.com.
