Mason Massey 13th at World Crown 300

(Douglasville, Ga.) August 13, 2013 - Super Late Model rookie Mason Massey ran in his first ever 300-lap race over the weekend and it was one of short-track racing's "crown jewels". Against some tough competition, the 16-year-old and his team overcame some mechanical issues to finish 13th in the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park in Douglasville, Ga.

"Overall it was not bad for my first ever 300-lap race," Mason said. "We unloaded our Georgia Special Olympics Super Late Model on Friday afternoon and were pretty good off the trailer. We lost a little bit handling-wise throughout practice that day and into the next morning. We didn't know what to expect in qualifying. I went to crank it up to pull out, and it wouldn't start. The guys changed the battery and the start switch in a matter of minutes and we finally got out there and qualified 18th. The race started out pretty good. I was trying to figure the right line to run where my car would handle the best. The guys had some awesome pit stops and gained us a few positions on pit road. We unfortunately were not able to get our last set of tires so I was just holding on to what I had till the end of the race."

Mason is mighty anxious to get to his next race in two weeks, the Alabama 200 at Montgomery Motor Speedway. Why?

"Because I'm the defending champion," Mason says with a smile. "We're all looking forward to getting back there and doing our best to make it two in a row!"

I am confident with Mason’s success, up to this point, he will continue to be consistent now that he has progressed to Late Models. Mason’s future looks very bright.”

Last year, Massey ran a Pro Late Model and earned his first two wins, both coming at Montgomery Motor Speedway (AL); the first of which came in only his sixth career start and the second was in the famous 48th Annual Alabama 200 where he is now the youngest driver ever to win.
